About

ColorSong is a synesthetic audio and visual experience centered around a constellation of networked LED’s that could be described as site-specific installation, live concert or a unique hybrid of the two with a range of different configurations and applications. The project was born out of a series of experimentations to pair the Holladay Brother’s music with light and color by retrofitting a collection of broken and discarded antique lamps, rewiring them to respond to different kinds of input and reimagining them as an extension of the sounds they were making. As live performance, music and color combine to illustrate narrative stories, explore concepts such as emergent systems in nature or to remix the color palettes of artists such as John Constable and Agnes Martin. As site-specific installation, the lights may be used as a tool for data visualization or in response to hues found in the surrounding environment. ColorSong represents less a finished statement than an evolving practice and a method through which the Holladay Brothers explore an expanded means of sonic expression.
